When Waiting takes too Long

Gracious God, there’s so much waiting in my life.
I wait in lines,
I wait for a better job,
I wait for others,
I wait for financial security,
I wait for a doctor’s report,
I wait for love,
I wait for pain to abate, and
I even wait for death.

Sometimes the waiting erodes my joy and fills me with dread. Help me find waiting to be the friend that invites me into the spaciousness of stillness. Give me the grace to refrain from rushing ahead in order to bring waiting to an end. Instead, let me find joy in the waiting itself. I ask this for the sake of your love. Amen.

Hi Roberta! This one is about something I've dealt with for at least 50 years now. And slowly I'm learning to wait in comfort and peace, and to enjoy the folks and the things around me. I guess waiting only messes us up when we "just have to get on with it" because we have things that must be done on a schedule. Jesus, a VERY busy guy, often went off by himself to wait. And he waited a whole lifetime of youth before he began his very short ministry. Most shocking of all to me when I was younger, but comforting to me now, he waited without an iPod, or a transistor radio, or even a two-month-old copy of Sports Illustrated or Women's Day. Now wait just a minute there... - Brad

Hey there, you Superior Scribbler, you! First of all, I'm not "spamming" you; I promise! Second of all, I'd like to introduce myself: I'm Melissa B., The Scholastic Scribe, & I'm the "Original" Superior Scribbler! Third thing on my mind: I've been nominated for a pretty prestigious blog award; I'd greatly appreciate your vote, so if you click on over to my place, you'll see the info. It's an annual award from EduBlog, and I'm up for Best Individual Blog. And 4th thing on today's agenda: I've got a cute "contest," of sorts, going on at my place every Sunday. Please come by this Sunday for the Silly Sunday Sweepstakes. And, thanks for your support!

I have been thinking about this during Advent too. When I focus on what I want to happen at the end of the waiting, I am too often disappointed. I have been enjoying your Advent posts.
