Finding has more to do with our end than the thing that's found. eg Finding gold. Finding oneself. Finding a great bargain. Finding the right department. The found is always there. In the lost and found of life.......we are the lost!
Anyway, on the not so serious side of things, yes this is funny!
Hi! Okay, so I took a look at ioannascheezburger.com. All about "funny cat pictures' - the kind of stuff my sister comes up with. Can't say I'm totally thrilled with the site's "kitty English," but it's fun. This puts an interesting light on the Jesus picture. I suppose the kitty is telling us that it's no big deal - he's right here, dummy. So out of this non-religious, humor site comes a real truth. He IS right here all the time, like the air we breathe and the force of gravity that keeps us from spinning off into space. But we don't get to choose whether we'll breathe or stick to the earth - autonomic nerves take care of the one and the laws of physics are good for the other. In the case of God and us, like you, I grew up in a tradition that asked, "Have you found the Lord?" "Have you accepted Jesus?" And by golly, if you said "yes" but hadn't been baptized by immersion, or went to some church where they had statues or some (dreaded) icons, your assertion was open to question. On of my favorite sayings of Jesus, recorded only in the Gospel of Thomas, goes something like, "Pick up a rock and you will find me; split a piece of wood and I am there." He also said to look into ourselves - what we find there is what we need. You are right on - he isn't playing hide and seek. He is in plain sight all the time, but just like we somehow don't always "see" the homeless man or the distraught woman on the bus, sometimes we don't want to see him. Dear friend, sorry to get so long-winded! It's all your fault, you know. Your choice of image and use of words got me going! Peace! - Brad
