World AIDS Day 2009

God, we lift up all those suffering from HIV and AIDS; bring your healing and restoration to their bodies. Help us to do our part in ministering in loving care, support, and patience for your people who suffer with HIV and AIDS. Lead us to do whatever it will take to eradicate this illness from the lives of those who are touched by it, both directly and indirectly. Trusting in you and the strength of your Spirit, we pray these things in the name of Jesus. Amen.

One of my earliest experiences with AIDS was working in 1989 with a young attorney who died from it. It wasn't really discussed and he didn't want anyone to find out. When he passed away someone in the office had the courage to send out a letter to the whole office stating the urgency and need for medical research for this disease. It was obviously a subject that caused many people difficulty. As a matter of fact one of the girls that I worked with told me that she would never contribute money to AIDS research because it was God's punishment for gays.

I remember in 1991 working at the same company and sitting in a conference room listening to the announcement that Magic Johnson had been diagnosed with the disease. That seemed to be more "acceptable" for some reason.

In any event - thank God people are more educated about the disease and it's not so much of a death sentence anymore as long as people have access to good education, medical care and loving support.

May God bless all of those who have passed on from this and especially for their families.

Please continue to support all organziations that are actively looking for a cure. Hopefully that day will come soon.
