"As the child who had never before been to
a Christmas service said when asked what it was like,
a Christmas service said when asked what it was like,
"I want some of that `umphant.'"
"What's that?" the child was asked.
"You know, it's what those people were singing about--
'O Come all ye faithful, joyful and try umphant'
I'd like to try some of that `umphant.'"
taken from a brilliant sermon by Rev. John C. Morris

YOUR LITTLE PICTURE REMINDED ME OF HOW MANY TIMES I HAVE HEARD SOMEONE SAY, "CHRISTMAS IS FOR CHILDREN." OR "CHRISTMAS JUST ISN'T THE SAME WITHOUT CHILDREN." AND YET, THERE WERE NO CHILDREN PRESENT AT THE SAVIOR'S BIRTH.
WHEN I HEAR THIS I'M SAD BECAUSE IT SEEMS THE SAYER HAS MISSED THE POINT. CHILDREN ARE FULL OF EXCITEMENT AND I WOULD HOPE WE COULD CATCH THAT EXCITEMENT. BUT FOR THE RIGHT REASONS. NOT SANTA OR HOW MANY GIFTS ARE UNDER THE TREE, OR COOKIES AND EGGNOG. BUT THE FULL OF JOY ACCEPTANCE OF WHO CHRISTMAS IS, NOT WHAT CHRISTMAS IS.
THE CELEBRATION IS WONDERFUL, IT IS MY VERY FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR AND I LOVE ALL THE ACCOUTREMENTS, BUT MY HEART'S DESIRE IS THAT ALL OF THAT SHOULD ENCIRCLE OUR DELIGHT AND AMAZEMENT THAT "JESUS CAME DOWN AND GLORY FILLED MY SOUL".
SO - GIVE ME SOME OF THAT UMPHANT!
Yes, I think I'd like to try some "umphant" too! Actually, that sounds like a wonderful attitude to try on!
